Asian Games 2023: Nepal Created Records in T20I Whereas Dipendra Singh Airee and Kushal Malla Break Records

The men’s Cricket competition in the Asian Games started on Thursday with a clash between Nepal and Mongolia. The match was played at Zhejiang University of Technology Cricket Field, Hangzhou, China.

Winning the toss, Mongolia has opted to ball. Nepal has scored 314 in just 20 overs as Kushal Malla scored 137 in just 50 balls. Apart from Kushal, Rohit Paudel, the captain of Nepal has scored 61 in 27 balls and helped them to cross the 300 mark. Kushal (34 balls) has broken Rohit Sharma and David Miller’s joint fastest century (35 balls) record with the century.

This is the highest T20I score ever posted by any team on the scorecard. Previously the record was held by Afghanistan (against Ireland) and the Czech Republic (against Turkey) as both teams scored 278 in 20 overs back in 2019.

Nepal’s batting received another boost when Dipendra Singh Airee came to the crease. He scored 52 in just 10 balls and smashed a half-century in only 9 balls. You can have a half-century minimum of 9 balls in pen and paper, and that’s what he did. In his innings, Dipendra hit 8 sixes and two twice. With the explosive batting, Dipendra broke Yuvraj Singh’s record for scoring half-century in 12 balls.

In return, Mongolia ended their innings in just 41 runs. Karan KC, A. Bohara, and Lamichhane each of them has taken 2 wickets each whereas Dipendra, Bhurtel, and Kami got 1 wicket each.

Nepal won the match by 273 runs which is the largest margin of victory in T20I cricket. Previously, the Czech Republic had the record when they beat Turkey by 257 runs in 2019.
