Atletico Madrid Wants Former Barcelona Member

A report circulated on Saturday that Atletico Madrid is interested in Barcelona’s former director of football Mateu Alemany at the end of the summer window. The 60-year-old left his position at Barcelona in early September and now he is not associated with any other club.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Atletico Madrid has initiated the talks with Alemany. An offer from Atletico is expected very soon. Atletico’s CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín is a good friend of Alemany and has known him personally and professionally for years.

Miguel believes that Alemany will be a valuable addition to the club especially when the club is suffering from financial stress. Previously Alemany helped Barcelona overcome financial stress to many extent by taking crucial decisions in the transfer business.

Miguel believes that Alemany did excellent business in the Catalonian Club while Barcelona was facing Financial Fair Play issues from La Liga. They are expecting Mateu will do the same with Atletico as the club is also facing the same issues as Barcelona. Worth mentioning, Atletico Madrid’s financial issues are not as big as Barcelona’s FFP issues.

Thanks to Alemany, Barcelona has signed Ilkay Gundogan, Joao Cancelo, Joao Felix, Oriol Romeu, and Martinez for just €3.4 million in the summer window. Alemany is a specialist in signing top-class free agents which will boost Atletico’s financial condition. It is not known yet if the deal will happen or not but it’d be a great signing for Los Colchoneros.
