Bad News for ‘70s Show’ Star Danny Masterson

The ‘70s Show’ star Danny Masterson could face prison as long as 30 years for committing rapes more than two decades ago.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Charlaine F. Olmedo is set to sentence Masterson after ruling on the defense motion for a new trial that she could reject even after hearing statements from victims.

The jury consists of seven women and five men who couldn’t reach a verdict on a third count as the 47-year-old actor also raped his longtime girlfriend in his Hollywood-area home back in 2003.

Prosecutors alleged that Danny used his prominence to avoid the consequences after the attack on the Church of Scientology, where the three women were members at that time.

The victims also blamed the Church as they hesitated to go to the Police and take action against Masterson. When the women informed the church about the incident, the higher official denied it by claiming it was not rape and warned against going to law enforcement against such a high-standard member.

However, the church denied the claim and said there is no provision that a victim cannot go to the law and order.

Masterson neither testified nor his lawyer called any witness. The defense argued that the charges were consensual and an attempt to discredit women’s stories by changing the narratives over time.

The Victim’s Testimony:

According to the victims, Masterson gave them drinks. When the women felt woozy or passed out, Danny violently raped them.

However, Masterson was not charged for giving drugs. There was no single evidence that could prove Masterson gave them drugs that night. This could be the biggest weapon in Masterson’s defense.

While the investigation started much before the #MeToo movement, sentencing Masterson will be a success for the movement definitely.
