‘Margaritaville’ Singer Jimmy Buffett Passed Away at 76

The popular American songwriter Jimmy Buffett, who is known for his beach bum soft rock with escapist song ‘Margaritaville’  has passed away at the age of 76.

Buffett’s official website informed: “ Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music, and dogs,”. The social media handles posted: “He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many.”

The reason for his death or where he died is not mentioned but illness had forced Jimmy to reschedule his concert in May. Buffett also informed his fans through social media that he was hospitalized but didn’t reveal the reason.

‘Margaritaville’, his most popular song was released on Valentine’s Day, 1977, and quickly became a fan favorite for those who are ‘wasting away’, an excuse for life for low-key fun, and escapism for those who grew older but didn’t mature.

His other song “Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes” spent 22 weeks on the Billiboard’s Hot 100 chart and peaked at number 8.  The song was also included in the Grammy Hall of Fame due to its immense cultural and historical significance in 2016.

It is worth mentioning, that ‘Margaritaville’ inspired restaurants and resorts, as Jimmy turned the simplicity of Island life into a multimillion-dollar brand. 

In 2016, Jimmy ranked 13th in Forbes’ America’s Richest Celebrities with a total net worth of $550 million.
