Sri Lanka Beat Afghanistan in Asia Cup on a Dramatic Fashion

On Tuesday, Sri Lanka beat Afghanistan by 2 runs in Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first. After an opening partnership of 63 runs, Sri Lanka ended their innings at 291/8.

Kusal Mendis scored a magnificent 92 in 84 balls, whereas Gulbadin Naib took 4 wickets and Rashid Khan owned 2 wickets.

While chasing, Mohammed Nabi played a superfast innings at a strike rate of 203.12. He scored 65 runs in just 32 balls which helped Afghanistan to reach 257 at the end of 35 overs.

But lack of experience and quality at the lower order, costs Afghanistan the match. Afghanistan closed their innings at 289 runs while 12.2 overs were remaining.

Kasun Rajitha has taken 4 wickets whereas Dunith Wellalage and Dhananjaya de Silva took 2 wickets each.

The Afghanistan players tried to play a quick-fire innings as they failed to understand the importance of a partnership and to stay on the crease till the end.

Rahmat Shah (45), H. Shahidi (59), Karim Janat (22), Najibullah (23), Rashid Khan (27) everyone tried to contribute with their bat with a striker rate of more than 100.

But none of them were able to stick to the crease till the end. Sri Lankan bowlers did a really good job by taking the wickets at regular intervals, which awarded them the win.

With the win, Sri Lanka has qualified for Super 4. India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Bangladesh are the four teams that will play in the play-offs.
