Sachin Tendulkar Addressed Afghanistan Cricket Team Ahead of a “Grudge” Match Against Australia

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar was spotted at the Wankhede Stadium, giving a pep-talk to the Afghanistan players before they face Australia. Wearing a black and grey striped shirt, Sachin was seen giving an energized moral booster speech to the Afghanistan side, probably about how they should approach the 5-times World Cup winner Australia.

The match against Australia will be very crucial for both teams. A win against Afghanistan will directly qualify for the play-offs. However, it is more important for the Afghanistan side as the win against Australia will keep them alive in the race for the semifinal.

While Sachin was giving his speech, Afghanistan players were listening to him very carefully, like an obedient student listening to his teacher. Former English batsman and Afghanistan’s head coach Jonathan Trott was also keeping a close eye on the player’s behavior and attitude during the huddle.

After finishing the press conference, captain Hasmatullah Shahidi quickly ran towards the team members as he realized that Sachin Tendulkar had already started his speech.

Former Indian batsman Ajay Jadeja, who recently joined the Afghanistan side as a consultant for the World Cup, was also spotted posing for a photo with little master along with the Afghanistan players. Rashid Khan thanked Sachin Tendulkar for addressing the team with a warm hug.

Afghanistan has proved itself as a dark horse in the ICC World Cup 2023. The team has beaten defending champion England, alongside Pakistan and Sri Lanka. To date, Afghanistan has won four out of seven matches, and hence to keep them alive in the competition, they must beat Australia.

The media is describing the match as a “grudge match” as earlier in March, Australia canceled an ODI series against Afghanistan in the UAE over the issue of the Taliban’s restriction on women and girls’ education and employment.
