IBF Featherweight Champion Luis Alberto Lopez (Mexico) for the second time against Joet Gonzalez in Corpus Christi, Texas, this Friday, September 15th.
Preview and Prediction:
Lopez defended his belt against Michael Conlan last time by a fifth-round TKO in Belfast, Ireland in May.
In December 2022 he defeated Josh Warrington by a majority decision in Leeds, England to capture the Featherweight title. Against Joet Gonzalez, he will enter the ring as a huge favorite.
Joet Gonzalez currently riding on a record of 26 wins and 3 losses. Gonzalez will enter the ring after defeating Enrique Vivas by a decision in April.
However, Alberto Lopez is 30 years old but he is in good form right now. He has a record of 28-2 with 16 TKOs. The 5’4” tall fighter has fought 163 rounds since he turned pro in 2015. Lopez finished his last four out of five fights.
After a loss against Rube Villa in 2019. Since then, Lopez won 11 consecutive fights to defend the belt against Gonzalez.
29-year-old Joet Gonzalez has fought 170 rounds since his pro-debut in 2012. However, Gonzalez has height and reach advantages over Lopez but still, he is a huge underdog in the fight. Gonzalez has similar power to Lopez as his knockout percentage is 57.7%.
Gonzalez has won over big names like Jeo Santisima, Miguel Marriaga, Rafael Rivera, Rodrigo Guerrero, Derrick Murray, Enrique Vivas, and Jose Miguel Tamayo. Gonzalez recently lost to Isaac Dogboe via unanimous decision and now he is on a 1-fight win streak.
Gonzalez has a nice jab that combines quick footwork and high defense. He has very much experience as an amateur boxer. Joet Gonzalez has a win and loses both against Gervonta Davis. He also competed in the World Series of Boxing against World Class opposition.
Although Gonzalez has size advantages, Lopez is a superior boxer. My pick will be Lopez by decision.
