As the release date for Martin Scorsese’s new movie “Killers of the Flower Moon” is close, the 80-year-old Italian-American film director in a recent interview with GQ Magazine shared his opinion about the films that Hollywood has been creating in the past few years.
According to Martin, “the industry is over”. He also said he feels like he was part of an industry for five decades which is biting the dust nowadays. He added currently, major studios in Hollywood are chasing films that are easier to make ‘Popcorn Movies’ which have the potential to turn into big franchises. Producers are not interested in giving value to individual voices, personal ideas, and thoughts anymore.
He pointed out the fact that producers are more interested in investing their money in superhero movies for better returns. This is true because we have seen a huge growth in superhero movies in recent years. According to Scorsese, the major portion of superhero movies rely on special effects and they are nothing more than “manufactured content” to offer.
Martin Scorsese shared his opinion about superhero movies as well. According to him, superhero movies are like artificial intelligence (AI) making films. He believes there are enough creative directors who can make incredible films using special effects. Superhero movies are a kind of consummation and after some time they’ll be eliminated from your mind. Scorsese asked the fans and director what these movies give to them.
About Killers of the Flower Moon:
The film is inspired by David Granny’s 2017 book, “Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI” which is based on a true story. True love concludes with unfathomable betrayal as the crime thriller circulates around the discovery of oil on the tribal land of the Osage Nation. The film explores a series of unexplainable killings that happened after the discovery of oil.
Robert De Niro will play the role of a convicted felon William Hale while Leonardo DiCaprio will be seen in the character of Ernest Burkhart. Apart from them, Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, John Lithgow, and Tantoo Cardinal will feature in the film.
The film is the sixth collaboration between Leonardo DiCaprio and Scorsese. Previously the duo worked together in films like “The Departed”, “The Wolf of the Wall Street”, and “Shutter Island”.
Killers of the Flower Moon will be released in theaters on October 20, 2023.
