According to Industry Watchers, the North American box office is struggling very hard as it hits the lowest point of 2023. ‘The Nun II’ is still at the top of the box office by collecting $8.4 million.
The numbers are very poor according to David A. Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research. The main reason for the slowdown can be months-long strikes by Hollywood screenwriters and actors. There is only a small chance that things will be good again very soon.
The strike prevented the actors and producers from promoting their upcoming films and the connection between fans and moviemakers became fragile. This resulted in the top five movies altogether being collected only $31 million which is even less than Barbie’s collection in the fourth weekend.
‘The Nun II’ directed by Michael Chaves and starring Taissa Farmiga is still at the top of the box office for the last few weeks despite having a poor collection.
Fans had great expectations from Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham’s Expend4bles but after releasing, it seems to disappoint the fans. It nearly collected $8.3 million in its first weekend period. The inclusion of personalities like Megan Fox, Tony Jaa, 50 Cent, and Randy Couture didn’t help them film to entertain the fans instead it caused headaches.
Kenneth Branagh’s latest Agatha Christie-inspired film, “A Haunting in Venice”, ranks third at $6.3 million box office.
Another action-packed thriller is also struggling at the box office despite being starred by Denzel Washington. The Equalizer 3, has collected only $4.8 million this weekend.
But it is good to see Barbie is still competing with the new films despite being released in July. Greta Gerwig’s fantasy film has collected $3.1 million which is a very respectable amount compared to other new releases.
