It is nothing new that Liverpool needed defensive signings in the summer transfer window but Klopp decided to focus on midfield instead of defense. Liverpool signed three quality midfielders to strengthen their midfield and they are currently doing well.

However, Liverpool has a few big names in the defense such as Van Dijk, Konate, Matip, and Joe Gomez. Over the years, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez were excellent for the club but in recent years their fitness and form have been unreliable.
In such a situation, Liverpool needs a young and long-term replacement in defense. Of course, if Liverpool has to win the Europa League this season, they need more bench strength in defense.

Piero Hincapie is a 21-year-old Ecuadorian defender who can play as a left-sided central defender as well as a left-back. He has enormous potential to develop into a world-class defender. Klopp even can fit Hincapie in a back-three formation as well.
Hincapie has both technical and physical attributes that a top-class Premier League defender needs to be successful. Liverpool is well-known for investing money in talented players. It seems the £48 million will be a good deal for the English club.
